Natalie King

Natalie King is a Koori woman born in Victoria, with mainly First Nations and Celtic ancestry. She hails from passionate and connected peoples with intersecting ties to Gunaikurnai Country in East Gippsland, Victoria.

Nat’s Nana was a Ngarigo speaking Monaro woman with kinship ties to Gunaikurnai and Wiradjuri. She raised her seven children in Buchan with her husband, a Gunditjmara man from Lake Conda Mission, who had kinship ties to Ngarrindjeri and Yorta Yorta. On her mother’s side, Nat’s family are Irish dairy farmers from Bruthen, with roots in Counties Cork and Clare in Ireland, and connections to Clare and Argyll, Scotland, through her maternal grandmother. Her Old People include Rats of Tobruk, founders of the Aborigines Advancement League, dairy farmers, community workers and activists.

Inheriting a deep appreciation for the natural world, Nat enjoys spending her free time rambling outside. Nat is grateful to live on a small, green property nestled in the Sunshine Coast hinterland on Kabi Kabi Country.

Nat’s curious nature has led her to gain experience across various disciplines including writing, copy editing, natural therapies, spiritual development, administration, community engagement, language and cultural practices, event management and customer service.

A friendly and empathetic person, Nat is known for her genuine interest in others and her ability to connect with those around her, co-creating spaces where all voices are listened to and valued. Nat worked in local government for almost two decades and is accepted as part of the local First Nations community. Nat weaves the loving resilience of her lived experience with her knowledge of government systems to promote positive shared outcomes for the local community.

Nat is passionate about truth-telling, decolonising practices and honouring her Ancestors by helping others remember theirs.
