Crisis care workers are at risk of experiencing vicarious trauma, more particularly when they come from mainstream cultural backgrounds and are working across cultures with people suffering generational historic social and cultural trauma. Vicarious trauma is an occupational health and safety issue which impacts workers severely.

This training is tailored for staff within organisations providing services to Aboriginal peoples. Both urban and remote area service delivery issues are thoroughly covered. Participants will gain a trauma informed approach in understanding vicarious trauma and its impacts on individuals and workplaces. Main themes are recognising and responding to vicarious trauma, developing the discipline for self care strategies, creating responsive, care based work environments and focusing on trauma specific service delivery and work practice.
